Welcome
Dance – as a tool of transmission – can surprise and inform us about a world we may have already imagined or have yet to discover.
The professional work and the humanity of the two dancers has led them to think about the notion of artistic,
natural and political borders. In the choreography that they propose, dance has no borders or barriers. It is mobile and adaptable. It has known and expected references for the viewer, but can surprise and shock. The bodies dance a winding path, that of constant encounters. Don Souma joins together multiple influences and combines afro-contemporary, traditional, hip-hop and even classical dance styles.
When Aziz and Doudou perform there is a large desire to escape limits and go above and beyond, at the same time remaining authentic, leaving their comfort zone of knowledge but without denying what and who they are.
“Here, I don’t forget my culture, I enrich it.
I don’t submit myself, I adapt.
Intelligence is in the conscious integration, far from submission.”
